Types of Dental Bridges

AttractionBridges are made to fill the gaps between teeth when one or more teeth are lost. If you have lost teeth and are a candidate for a dental bridge, our Agoura Hills dentist will help you find the best bridge for your smile.

There are several types of bridges are available, including:

1. Traditional bridges
These bridges are supported by abutment teeth or dental implants, and the artificial tooth is suspended between two crowns. Traditional bridges are the most commonly used bridges and are typically made of porcelain or porcelain that is fused to metal for the most aesthetic results.

2. Maryland bridges
Maryland bridges are typically used to replace missing front teeth. The pontics, or artificial teeth, are attached to thin, metal bands, which are then bonded to the abutment teeth using resin. They are more conservative than conventional bridges, but they are also not as strong, which means they have a higher failure rate especially when used to replace multiple teeth.

3. Cantilever bridges
If you are missing a tooth with natural teeth on only one side, a cantilever bridge might be necessary. The cantilever bridge has a design similar to traditional bridges but uses only one crown for support.
